Server-Based Computing Solutions:
SBCS is an application deployment and management technology, which allows users to access applications running on servers from a variety of devices. With server-based computing, all desktop applications such as Microsoft Office, e-mail, project management, etc. are installed on a server rather than on end-user devices (desktops or notebooks). All application processing is performed on the server with the end-user device handling only the input and output interfaces (keyboard, mouse, and the graphical display).
In server-based computing, end-user devices require minimum processing power and memory, thus this environment is also referred to as “thin-client” computing. Users do not have to upgrade older PCs and operating systems to access the latest versions of desktop applications. Users can also use low cost Windows or UNIX terminals, also known as thin-client appliances, as an alternative to PCs. However, it is not mandatory to replace PCs with terminals or thin-client appliances to gain benefits from server-based computing.
